How To Focus On Your Priorities

Clarity is key. Knowing what you want is key. Knowing what your end result will be is key. Whatever type of goal it is, whatever the outcome or result you are aiming for, make sure that before you start with any action or plan, you have this one thing: clarity.

And when I say clarity, I mean you need to be so clear that it’s practically set in stone. Because if you don’t have that clarity, what’s actually going to happen is that you are going to lose focus. You will end up doing a bunch of random things associated with what it is you actually wanted to achieve in the first place. So whenever you’re working on something, check to see whether it’s aligned to one of your core goals (we often have more than one).

Otherwise you’re wasting your time and other people’s time. And ultimately, it doesn’t help you at all.

Whatever the goal might be – maybe it’s a health and exercise goal, and you want to lose weight, look and feel better about yourself or get one of those beach bodies – it’s all about the same process. It’s about figuring out exactly what it is you want to do.

Let’s think about what you need to ask yourself in this health and fitness example. What weight are you aiming for – gain or loss? What do you want your body to look like? How do you want to feel – strong, healthy, fit?  And crucially, why are you doing it? Get these really defined, and ensure they are what you want. They have to mean something to you. If you can imagine yourself feeling elated and have a reason to celebrate when you’ve achieved them, you’ve got some great goals.

As soon as you’ve got these in mind, it’s time for the next part of the process – the how. Because now you’re clear on what it is you want, the how becomes much clearer too. Is it getting up at 5am to get to the gym to lift some weights? Do you need to meal prep and learn exactly what you need to put in you body? How much do you need to run everyday to reach your target? What exercise and how much exercise do you need to do to reach your goal?

So now you are clear on the goal and how you’re going to achieve it. How much easier is it to commit to the actions now you know they’re aligned with the goals? It should be 100 times easier!

Think about the farmer who is 100% committed. How does he find the motivation to keep going in the fields in the height of the summer heat and the freezing winters? How do they keep going despite the conditions they have to endure? It comes down to the fact that they know what their end result is. The farmer knows that to sell his products, he has to go through the process and actions of sowing the seed, taking time to cultivate them and take care of it all first. He always has the end goal and result in mind, and knows he simply won’t have the finished product unless he puts in the work.

Keeping the vision of your end result is a big part of keeping your motivation. When you see it in your mind it becomes a lot more tangible to work with. You know what it looks like, you know what it feels like, and you know what the sense of achievement will be like.

If you don’t have a clear goal in mind, you’re not going to be consistent in your habits, and you won’t get the results you want. So if you want to achieve that huge goal you have your eye on, you know your first action is to get really clear on what it is you want! I can’t wait to see your results!
